We also tendered to Rangiroa, our next port of call. Rangiroa is considered a natural aquarium with it’s relatively shallow protected lagoon filled with colorful fish and coral. We took a glass bottom boat tour and got to see everything from angel fish to lemon sharks. It would be a great place to dive. In fact, the island has one of the world’s top-rated dive sits. Favorable currents make it possible to drift dive the Tiputa Pass, starting at 100-feet and ending at about 40-ft when you get through. I was tempted but I wouldn’t want to do even 40-feet in a borrowed mask and fins.

We took the boat out about mid way in the lagoon and one of our guides jumped in and with bait at the end of a long rod brought the fish over for us to see. He even went down and lured a moral eel out of its hiding place.

The fish seemed to leave each other alone including the lemon and white tip sharks. Which just kept swimming by. During our tour our guide mad a hat by weaving palm fronds. Laura was the only one it fit so she got to take it home.

When we got off the boat we went to the local stalls where we got a nicely designed shirt and two pareos. The woman at the shop showed Laura how to put them on and tie them properly of which I took a video. We then went to a café where we had more Hinano and then took the tender back to the ship.
