Our last stop before the 6 day sail to the U.S. was on Kauai where we spent the day at the McBryde and Allerton Gardens part of the National Tropical Botanical Garden. The NTBG was set up by the U.S. Congress in 1964. The gardens are dedicated to preserving endangered species and to plant research.

The tour guides are all botanists and as such a well versed in the mission and contents of the gardens. We saw plants there we could see nowhere else and got information on how to care for our own plants.

The gardens also have an area filled with sculptures all made of thousands of lego bricks. The sculpture include a woman tending her garden, ducks, a hummingbird and a eagle among others.
