Esperance has been voted to have the best and whites beaches in Australia by the country's Bational Committee on Soil and Terrain and truly the beaches in the area are among the most beautiful we've ever seen.

Unfortunately the sharks seem to agree. We were told the five people were killed by sharks here this year, so while we admired the beaches we did not go near the water.

We took a taxi around the area stopping not only at the beaches but at a shop where they make belts, purses and other products from fish leather. The purses are really beautifully done but heavy. We also visited a glass works.

There was not a lot to do in the town itself but someone in the area has a real sense of humor when it comes to wall signs. There was also a strange little hump-backed truck/van which had no makers name.
