Cruising through Norway’s fjords, every scene looks like it belongs on a picture postcard. But Geiranger at the head of Geirangerfjord is probably the most beautiful and scenic spots of all. We walked from the ship to the small village (250 people) and bought tickets for the bus that would take us up to the two scenic overlooks in the area. Since we had a couple of hours before the bus trip., we began our tour by walking up to a waterfall just outside of town. It was a fairly steep climb but worth the view.

We made it back well in time for the bus which went first to the Flydalsjuvet viewpoint and then back through Geiranger to the Eagle Road viewpoint. The roads are incredibly steep and many switchbacks as we climb to the top of the mountain viewpoints. The views of the snow-capped mountains and waterfalls are beyond belief. There is the Seven Sisters waterfall which spills from the top of the cliffs 5,000 feet into the fjord.

Laura asked our bus driver if there were many accidents on the road. He told her there were a few every year. He showed us where the most recent one had occurred. It turned out the the people involved were incredibly lucky as their camper was caught by a tree instead of falling 1000 feet into the fjord.

Geiranger has a floating dock which when not in use the dock is folded back against the shore. When a ship comes in the dock is extended out to provide a walk way from the ship to the shore.
