Instead of taking a tour we just walked off the ship into Porto Quetzal, a small area on the west coast of Guatemala set up mainly for commercial vessels. There is a restaurant and a marina and a small shopping area.

It seems that a lot of the crafts that we have seen at other ports are made in Guatemala. In the shopping area, we watched a woman weaving cloth for a table runner (later on we bought a runner from her). In a lot of places we've visited we found that most of the so-called crafts are made in China or India. In one place they;’d actually cut the labels out of some of the shirts Here we were able to watch the crafts being made. On top of that Laura had a great chance to practice her Spanish. By the time the day was through she was able to hold entire conversations in Spanish.
